Dawood Public School, established in 1959 by a group of founders including Miss Rumbold, Mr. Nelson, Mrs. Robinson, Mrs. Prabha Majumdar, Elizabeth, Neil Munshi, Kom Karimunnessa, Mrs. Hamida Dilshad, Aya Kameni, and Pion Pinarom, started its glorious journey from a tin shed store room which later became the Station Club with a view to addressing a specific educational need in Jashore area. Basically, the initiative to create an English medium school in Jashore was spearheaded by sports bets the then Cantonment Executive Officer Mohiuddin Jilani. Overcoming numerous challenges, the school commenced its journey on June 15, 1959, starting with a one-room office and two classrooms located under a mango tree in front of the Station Club. The inaugural principal was Miss Kathleen Nightingale Rumbold, an Australian with a missionary background and a descendant of Florence Nightingale.
